Practice Nurse Seminars on Dementia in collaboration with SA & NT Divisions of General Practice  

"Dementia: Making the Diagnosis" is a 1.5 - 2 hour presentation for nursing staff in general practice covering:

  • Memory and Ageing
  • Dementia Risk and Protective Factors
  • Cognitive Impairment without Dementia
  • Dementia Diagnosis and Assessment
  • Depression and Delirium
  • Diagnosing Dementia Sub-Types
  • Practical Issues: Legal and Driving Matters, Services
  • Medication and Management
  • Dementia Care the Person Centred Approach 

This seminar has been undertaken in several SA & NT GP divisions and further courses are currently being scheduled for late 2009 in Adelaide.

 

Health Professional's Role in Advance Directives for People with Dementia

Cost:         No cost to participants.  This course is funded by the Australian Government as part of the Dementia Training Study Centres for Health Professionals Project.

Dementia, Delirium & Depression

Developed in collaboration with the SA & NT DTSC, the Flinders University School of Nursing and Midwifery is conducting this professional development opportunity for health professionals.

This course is to be delivered on-line over 12 weeks as continuing education to health professionals.

Caring for People with Dementia in the Acute Care Setting

Registrations of interest are currently being taken from acute care service providers for on-site delivery in 2009 of this 3-day assessed course, conducted over 3 months.

In 2009 eight courses are scheduled at various hospitals including Modbury Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, Royal Darwin Hospital, Alice Springs Hospital, Ashford Hospital and Noarlunga Hospital.
