Short Term Scholarships

Purpose

The South Australian and Northern Territory Dementia Training Study Centre (SA & NT DTSC) is offering scholarships for short-term research projects and learning activities that will in some way impact or improve the quality of dementia practice and care for people with dementia and/or their carers, and if possible in rural and remote, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.

Selection

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and the extent to which the research is relevant to the fields of ageing and early intervention of chronic disease management and patient and nursing practice development needs.

The SA & NT DTSC aims to allocate scholarship money to projects that will:
promote awareness of dementia;
assist health professionals (or those training to be) within rural and remote, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities provide improved care and services to people with dementia;
facilitate research on dementia; and/or
achieve maximum impact on improvement in the quality of life of people with dementia and their carers.

Selection will be made by a selection panel established by the SA & NT Dementia Training Study Centre.

Eligibility

Only one application per student is permitted and scholarships are only awarded for study at South Australian or Northern Territory tertiary institutions.

Reporting Obligations

Each successful applicant will be required to forward a brief written report of the work undertaken during their scholarship to the Director of the SA & NT Dementia Training Study Centre within 6 weeks of the completion of the project for inclusion on the Centre website.

Funding

The amount of funding for scholarships will vary and will be dependent on the individual research project or learning activity.  Applications must detail the amount of funding the student is applying for and how this funding will be used in relation to their research project or learning activity. 

Scholarships are funded by the Australian Government as part of the Dementia Training Study Centres for Health Professionals Project.   As the Centre’s funding period ends on 30 June 2009, all related scholarship activity will need to be completed before this date.

Closing Date

Applications will be taken by the SA & NT DTSC on an ongoing basis during 2008, subject to the availability of funds.

The Centre will envisage to advise students of the success of their application within 6 weeks of aplications being received by the Centre.
